BOLOGNA
Our Art Hotel Commercianti is located in the very center of the emilian main town, in a street that embraces San Petronio on one side, which it leadas directly in Piazza Maggiore! Imagine waking up in the morning and to have at hand the wonders of Bologna: you can walk in the historic cobbled streets, immerse yourself in the atmosphere of joyful local markets, visit the numerous monuments and museums rich in history, savor traditional Emilian cuisine in some of the best restaurants in the region, and much more. This boutique hotel in the center of Bologna will allow you to stay and experience the city in all its intensity and overwhelming beauty as it is very close to the most famous attractions, thanks to its excellent location!

Piazza Maggiore
First of all, there is no doubt that Piazza Maggiore, or Piâza Mażåur in Bolognese dialect, is the main square of the city, the most characteristic and well-known point, and home to the famous "crescentone," a renowned pedestrian platform named after our beloved crescenta, one of the most beloved typical dishes of the city. It is also the "Piazza Grande" of the famous Lucio Dalla, one of the most famous and beloved Italian singers in Italian history: his home, turned into a museum, is located less than 50 meters from our hotel and is invaded every year by thousands of admirers and fans who want to fully immerse themselves in the world of Dalla's genius, which, moreover, has Bologna as his undisputed muse.

The structure
The famous Gothic basilica of San Petronio was designed in the 14th century and, despite still being unfinished, ranks as the sixth largest church in Italy and one of the most impressive in Europe. A massive structure both visually and historically, San Petronio is a place rich in things to discover and interesting anecdotes. One of the most curious facts is certainly related to the fact that the basilica houses the longest sundial in the world, built in 1657 by the astronomer Domenico Cassini. But what is it? An ancient instrument for measuring time using sunlight, the sundial is comparable to a horizontal sundial and holds the world record for size thanks to its gnomon, the style used to mark the hours: that of our basilica measures a whopping 66.8 meters!

Just in front of San Petronio there is the imposing Palazzo del Podestà, the first former seat of the government of Bologna, with the portico of Aristotele Fioravanti decorated with 4000 sculpted tiles. Known for its beauty and above all for being the guardian of one of Bologna's seven secrets: the wireless telephone. It is not unusual, in fact, to walk under the Voltone del Podestà and find people seemingly intent on staring at the wall. In reality, legend has it that if you speak to each other from one side to the other of the four corners of the Arengo tower, you can hear each other, just like a wireless telephone. We invite you to verify with your own eyes, or rather, ears!

Bologna "La Grassa"
It is impossible to talk about the historical center without mentioning Via Pescherie Vecchie, also located next to San Petronio. The name originates from "Pescarie", which means fishmongers, and it is still very common to come across old shops that have decided to preserve their original names, for example, “Orefici” goldsmiths, “Calzolerie” shoemakers , and “Caprarie” goatherd. Walking along this street, you will perfectly understand why Bologna is also known as "la grassa" which means the fat one: food tradition is taken very seriously by the locals, who still keep the market tradition alive, where it is possible to buy any type of food product and, above all, of excellent quality. Getting lost in these small streets, you will be conquered by the essence of Bologna and its people, who, despite the passing of time, it seems immobile, unchanging, and, above all, very attached to their traditions.

Art Hotel Commercianti
Let's not forget, very close to our boutique hotel, Via Rizzoli and Via Indipendenza: these two streets divide the historic center. The first one dates back to the Middle Ages, the second one is more recent, but both are rich in history, majestic, and full of life. They are considered the city's commercial hub. Here you can enjoy a coffee in peace or go in some wild shopping! If you want to get away from the frenzy, in the quiet Via Piella, at number 16, reachable by foot or by bicycle from our bike rental hotel in Bologna , facing a picturesque orange window, you can admire a hidden part of the city, characterized by canals, colors, and lively balconies that are reflected in the water. This secret corner of Bologna, overlooking the Canale delle Moline, is known as "Little Venice". Many are unaware that the city is still crossed by ancient canals used for commercial activities and to power the mills for silk production during the medieval period. Let yourself be fascinated by the palaces and discover this romantic glimpse of your secret Bologna!

Our Art Hotel Commercianti is characterized by a unique atmosphere, thanks also to the artworks that adorn every corner of the hotel.
